St. Paul’s Convent School (Secondary Section) is a pioneer promoting STEM education in a holistic and coherent manner. Its strategy focuses on actual action to formulate foundational skills in STEM learning areas, promoting the development of the 21st century skills of problem solving, critical analysis and creative thinking. Modern trending leads to many people communicating via online social media resulting in vast expansion of internet connectivity in recent years. It benefits parents and students to move forward to have better knowledge and adoption of STEM in many crucial ways.
During the COVID 19 pandemic, St. Paul’s Convent School Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) hosted an Online STEM Talk on 5th March 2022. The talk highlighted the realities of “Empowering your children for 21st Century’s via STEM education”. The speaker, Dr. Ray Cheung, Associate Professor, Department of Electrical Engineering, City University of Hong Kong shared with us how parents and students can benefit from STEM: Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics learning. The seminar provides insights for both parents and students to build a strong critical STEM elements such as Computational Thinking, Digital Literacy, Skills, Readiness, Collaboration, Communication, and Creativity, which they can apply these STEM contents to solve real-world challenges. In addition, parents and students can understand the difference between Kid’s coding and Adult’s coding.
Students need to develop a deep skillset on the fast-track to succeed in modern world where automation is only a click away. Kid’s coding is very important in AI / Fintech programing. When students learn to cooperate with each other, think creatively and expressing their ideas persuasively at an early age, they can stay competent in a new world flooded with opportunities.
